Metro-Cammell class 101 dmu?s have been common all over Britain since 1956, in the last decade their numbers have been steadily decreasing, until only six were still in service at the start of 2003, operating short distance journeys between Manchester Piccadilly and Marple and Rose Hill.

December 2003 was the last month for class 101?s on the mainline, In the last couple of weeks Daisy, 101685 made two journeys to Sheffield, one on her 47th birthday on the 17th December and the other one on Christmas eve, the 101?s last day of service, also in between those journeys, Daisy, along with 693 and 676 were used on the farewell special, on the 21st from Piccadilly, to Buxton, and back and then onto Preston, Morecambe, Heysham and finally Barrow and back. An excellent farewell to these workhorses, whose life has spanned nearly 50 years.
